Community Health Education (CHE)
This is based on the transformational health education program which began over 25 years ago by Medical Ambassadors International and is also used in over 70 countries world wide. It began in the Solomon Islands in 2004 and has a wholistic approach to see the transformation of the local people through the seamless combination of disease prevention, education and community development.
The World Health Organisations “Healthy Islands” initiative states that the definition of health is ‘a state of complete physical, mental, and social well being, not just the absence of disease’. We see tis statement reflected in the Great Command that Jesus gave in Luke 10:27. CHE uses the principles of community participation and motivates the community to own their own holistic development. It also encourages them to bring about transformation on an individual and a community level.
CHE doe not only focus on health promotion and disease prevention but also includes culturally sensitive moral value lessons, family life, agriculture, micro enterprise and many other development issues.
CHE also has a special HIV/AIDS module that looks at education and prevention, as well as a biblical compassionate response to those infected and affected.
